In light of the criminal case against the Penang nudists, many people are wondering. Is nudism safe in Malaysia? The short answer is yes.
What we learned from the Penang case is that the rule of law only extends as far as public areas are used.
Therefore a nude event held indoors is perfectly acceptable. Even if a complaint is made, the prosecution must show that the nudists had intention to scandalise other people, which of course they can’t. (They tried it in the Penang case, but failed.)
And there are plenty of nice spacious apartments available on Airbnb.com to host nude events, even at short notice.
There are also villas in nearby Port Dickson, closed off to the public eye, with a pool and space to have fun.
So don’t worry. Nudity may not be legal but it is certainly not out of bounds.
